  Noun Adjuncts (noun + noun)

          In English we can put two nouns together. The first noun is used as an adjective to modify the second noun and is called a noun adjunct. The first noun is almost always singular because it follows the rule for adjectives, which do not have plural forms in English.
 N₁ N₂ can mean that
a. N₁ is a kind of N₂ (a grammar book is a kind of book)
b. N₁ is an object of an implied verb (an apple tree is a tree that produces apples)
       It is important to understand that N₂ is the thing and N₁ is the kind or type:
a rose bush is a busha wrist watch is a watchcomputer paper is paper
N₁ is singular, even if the phrase is plural.
Examples:

My mother planted a rose bush in the garden.
I bought a new table lamp.
Bobby takes the school bus to school.
The school ordered fifty new grammar books.
That man makes bird cages.
Mrs. Taylor bought some new baby clothes.We can use a number with N₁ to make a compound adjective. Since the number and noun make one unit, we use a hyphen to join them. Note that N₁ remains singular because it is being used as an adjective.
Examples:
a three-car garage
a ten-speed bicycle
a twenty-dollar bill
     If we use a number to refer to the second noun (how many), we do not use a hyphen:
two grammar books
five rose bushes
     We can use a number to refer to the second noun (how many) and a number with the first noun (compound adjective). In that case, there is no hyphen after the first number, but the second number is still used with a hyphen because it forms a compound adjective.

         Determiners are words that are used with nouns to clarify the noun. They can clarify:
***to define something or someone***to state the amount of people, things or other nouns ***to state possessives***to state something or someone is specific***to state how things or people are distributed***to state the difference between nouns***to state someone or something is not specific

      There are different types of determiners. There type of determiner depends on the type of noun. Singular nouns always need a determiner. Plural nouns the determiner is optional. Uncountable nouns the determiner is also optional.
      There are about 50 different determiners in the English language they include:
1. Articles: a, an, the
2.Demonstratives: this, that, these, those, which etc.
3.Possessives: my, your, our, their, his, hers, whose, my friend's, our friends', etc.
4.Quantifiers:few, a few, many, much, each, every, some, any etc.
5.Numbers: one, two, three, twenty, forty
6.Ordinals: first, second, 1st 2nd, 3rd, last, next, etc.

Kasit to meet Cambodian counterpart in Siem Reap

       Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya is scheduled to meet his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong to discuss border disputes, notably in the area near Preah Vihear Temple, and seek ways to ease the tension in Thailand caused by nationalist protesters.
The minister travelled by car yesterday through the border province of Sa Kaew to Siem Reap, where he will attend the Thailand-Cambodia Joint Commission meeting. Kasit stopped at the border to get a briefing from Thailand's Burapha Task Force.
        The joint commission is expected to discuss general issues related to bilateral ties, like economic and cultural cooperation, although Kasit expects to discuss the boundary dispute with his counterpart on the sidelines.
       The jailing of Thai Patriots Network leader Veera Somkwamkid and his assistant Ratree Pipatanapaiboon, who got lengthy sentences last week after being convicted of trespass and espionage by a Cambodian court, was unlikely to be on the agenda as the two are expected to appeal the verdict next week.
      Kasit said he would visit the two in Prey Sar prison on the outskirts of Phnom Penh after the meeting wraps up today.
The border conflict was initially handled by the joint boundary committee, which met for the last time in 2009. But it is still waiting for the Thai Parliament to give it the go ahead to meet again.
The areas adjacent to Preah Vihear temple have not been demarcated and both countries claim sovereignty over the 4.6 square kilometres.
      Thailand has accused Cambodia of building a Buddhist pagoda in the disputed area, and is demanding that it remove the national flag it has hoisted there. Cambodia has rejected the demand, saying the area is under its sovereignty.
      Though the pagoda was built in 1998, the government has been pressed to protest by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), which is also demanding that the 2000 memorandum of understanding on boundary demarcation be scrapped and Cambodians living near the temple be forcibly evicted.
Second Army Region chief Lt-General Thawatchai Samut-sakorn, who oversees the area, said he could not force Cambodia to remove the flag hoisted over Wat Keo Sikha Kiri Svara as it might spark a major conflict between the two countries.
        Thailand had also hoisted its national flag at the Twin Stupa nearby, he said. "Both parties can claim sovereignty on the area as long as the boundary issue has not yet been demarcated," he added.

US working on plan for immediate Mubarak resignation

Washington - US officials are in talks with Egyptian officials on a proposal for President Hosny Mubarak to resign immediately, the New York Times reported late Thursday.
The plan would see Mubarak hand power over to a transitional government under Vice President Omar Suleiman with the support of the Egyptian military, unnamed US officials and diplomats told the newspaper. Mubarak himself has not been directly involved in the talks.
The proposal would also call for opposition groups to get involved in the planning of free and fair elections in September.
Mubarak has indicated he will not step down until his term ends in September and said in an interview on ABC News that there would be "chaos" if he were to step down now.//DPA.
